Brian Blanchard gets promoted to Blue Belt!
One of the most prized achievements in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training is the blue belt. This is the first promotion a practitioner earns when they train the beautiful art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ( BJJ ). The average time frame for achieving the blue belt varies but there are 2 paths that will lead to it.
One is, of course, come to class! Very simple in word, but can be difficult applying as life some times gets in the way. But any thing worth having will need consistency, hard work, and determination. By attending class regularly a new student becomes more familiar with moves and how to execute them under pressure i.e. in a self defense situation. So over time the student will become extremely proficient with the application of the art. And with the first promotion to blue belt, the student is now in position where they have a solid base and understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The other path to blue belt is competition. Competition path often lead to quicker promotions because a student actively test the knowledge against other knowledgeable practitioners. And with the tournaments and the accelerated training in preparation for tournaments students learn at a faster rate. One thing to note, many of the power house teams in BJJ were founded by a blue belt, and that’s part of the reason why earning a blue belt is so important. Both paths yield excellent blue belts, it just varies from person to person.
At Top Flight MMA, we have students exercising both paths to blue belt. Some want just to learn the art of BJJ, get in shape, and be able to protect themselves and their families. While others want to the high pace of competition and training the yields BJJ champions
Brain Blanchard is one of the Top Flight students who absolutely loves training BJJ for the art it is and for competition. He trains all through week, sometimes twice a week. And even though he now does every competition he can get his hands on, he originally started just for a good work out. Congratulation Brian, we look forward to doing many more great things and working your way up to BJJ black belt.
