Words of wisdom from Ron Seldon, 44yr old BJJ champion
Courage – mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. When times get hard we dig deep and step up to any obstacles put in front of us. We put on our armor and go to war always prepared because that is what we train for putting it all on the line and leaving it on the mat, in the ring, or in the cage.
Humility – the quality of being humble: modest, not proud, doing something out of the goodness of your heart, not for yourself. It is a great quality of leadership which derives respect and not just fear or hatred and when we don’t reach our goal we just step back and say what did I fail to do that the other person did. Train some more and get that last rep that I missed and that will make the difference.
Awesomeness, amazing, astonishing, and astounding all can be described as inspiring, terrific and extraordinary. These are terms that we don’t look for as a team they just happen because of hard work and dedication to greatness.
Mighty –powerful, not only in physical statue, but in mental preparation, because of the work that is put in and the reputation that has been built by current and previous team members our opponents acknowledge our might and better beware of the smack that we will lay down on their candy asses if they are not ready for the storm that is coming.
Professionalism – the conduct, aims, and qualities that mark us as a professional team. We carry ourselves as a well oiled machine running on blood, sweat, and hard work. Drinking water and pissing vinegar this is what we do when we lay it on the line like a Doctor performing surgery. We come with the tools to get the job done by any means necessary you better move over or get ran over.
Intensity – the quality of being intense as in an extreme degree of strength, force, energy, or feeling. It’s that takedown that submission, that never quit attitude, forged in the heat of battle, which pushes you to that level of not
quitting when the average person stops. The TEAM keeps on going. The energizer bunny doesn’t have anything on this team.
Overachiever – one who achieves success over and above the standard or expected level especially at an early age. As I said before it’s not by mistake or by being blessed with special abilities, but being pushed and encouraged to dedicate oneself physically and mentally to the training and methodologies of the TEAM. This is how you can be labeled as an overachiever by the lesser folk who don’t put in the HARD WORK. If that’s what you want to call us then you will never be on the podium just stick to taking pictures and do what you do, because we are a TEAM of leaders influencing members to accomplish their goals by providing them purpose, motivation, and guidance to be able to when the battle with no regrets.
Nasty – mean, extremely hazardous or harmful, causing severe pain or suffering. I’m sorry, but this is what happens when losing is not in your vocabulary. We don’t mean for that KIMURA to be so violent or that choke to be so quick and intense so go ahead a give up and make it easy on yourself, but after our hands are raised in the air that’s when our humility kicks in. For all you other teams out there do yourself a favor and bow down gracefully and you will not experience our nastiness.
